Kardo Shiwan: KUR
Of roots, movement and layers of history: What do we carry with us?
What do our bodies remember of where we came?
KUR is a dreamlike stage piece combining thousands of years old traditional Kurdish folk dances and contemporary dance with mythology and cosmology. In Kurdish folklore mountains hold a significant purpose, which is why KUR takes place inside a mountain. Inside the mountain the past and future blend together and sense of time dissolves in to continuous stream of rhythm and memories.
KUR is movement that challenges the body and merges dreams and reality together. This movement echoes the Kurdish tradition of halparke. “Core of halparke is in getting together, in touch and in being present for eachother. Halparke is danced hand in hand. At this time, maybe more than ever, people should come together”, says KUR choreographer Kardo Shiwan.
KUR builds a bridge through time on the stage. This bridge is formed by performes of different ages and backgrounds, music and video projection. In this multidisciplinary artwork movement, sound and picture frame the meaning of belonging and human connection in time, where we often lose sight of each other.
