Ojanen & työryhmä: Orlando, oodi luonnolle

Orlando, oodi luonnolle is a dance performance that explores environmental emotions.

The lyricized dance performance has been designed with visually impaired audiences in mind. It features creative descriptions of movement – speech and sound that narrate the events on stage.

The performance carries the audience dreamlike through seasons, landscapes, and emotions that transform like the weather: unpredictably, powerfully, and inevitably. Central to the work are sensations connected to nature and the changing seasons: What does the wind feel like on the skin? How does water flow through one’s fingers?

The performance draws inspiration from nature and the seasons, Virginia Woolf’s novel Orlando, and the grief and other emotions stirred by today’s ecological crisis.

The performance is being produced in collaboration with Pirkanmaa Dance Centre, Tampere Theatre, and Teatteri NEO (Setlementti Tampere).

Information about the project

Orlando 1+2 is a multi-year project, and this performance is the first part of the pair of works. The second part will be realized in the 2026–2027 season.

At the heart of the work is a sense of poetry that arises from the equal collaboration between artists with and without developmental disabilities, from practices of creative accessibility, from creating new ways of working and expressing, and from diversifying artistic expression.

The Orlando duo of works is a collaboration between Pirkanmaa Dance Centre, Tampere Theatre, and Teatteri NEO, which has received support from the New Classics Fund. The New Classics support encourages cooperation between the independent performing arts sector and state-subsidized institutions, aiming to create new classics through collaboration.

The TIKSI project supports and provides expertise in Orlando’s creative accessibility. TIKSI – saavutettavuus taiteellisena strategiana ja inspiraationa is a three-year performing arts development project (2023–2025) by DuvTeatern.

The work of the sound designer is carried out with a grant from the Kone Foundation.

In collaboration with Tampere Theatre, Pirkanmaa Dance Centre, and Teatteri NEO, which is managed by Setlementti Tampere.
