TUTKA24

Making a dance piece is usually a long process – sometimes even years. It can include solitary reflection and planning while writing, dancing, wandering, or joint development as a work group in the dance hall, moving and talking.

TUTKA24 invites the public to participate in the artistic process, to the stage where the work is just taking shape or the artist’s ideas are still taking shape. The TUTKA artists of 2024 are Maikki Palm and Maija Tuomi.

Maikki Palm: I study the choreography of thoughts, with the main focus being the memories that have been born from meeting people. From this mass of memory images, I create a bridge to bodily expressive possibilities, where the memory images deepen into choreographic situations through corporeality.

Maija Tuomi: I am the matriarchal space diver of dance art; body-wise linguistic choreographer, colorful body illustrator, corporeal poet and mother of two little ones. At TUTKA, I focus on bodily writing, body illustration, and especially researching the dialogue or lack of dialogue between words and movement in the context of a performance.
